6 Life Lessons For The Human Soul
“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
— Walt Disney
From my 26 years on this planet I have experienced a lot…maybe too much…because my soul feels like it is pushing 95. But I will share my top 6 lessons to any viewing eye who needs a little pick me up on life.
1. Challenge your Comfort Zone
Ever since we were little society has told us not to talk to strangers. To stay within our means and to follow traditional life steps because it is the only way to have a successful life.
Well I call baloney!
Inherently, by nature we are social creatures but society has set up perimeters around how social we should be. The best experiences I have had throughout my life is producing the courage to meet and chat with strangers. You will be surprised with how much you can learn from strangers and be inspired by the stories they tell.
2. Be Patient
My biggest challenge in life is to be more patient with occurring events. Not being patient has created great stress and anxiety for me because I live in the “now” and I grew up in the millennial generation of instant gratification. I love analogies, so here is mine for this bullet point. I will use a situation I currently find myself struggling with, the horrid job search.
Finding the right job is like finding your soulmate. You do not want to be in a relationship if the other person doesn’t want you. Chances are, it wasn’t meant for you. So if that company you have applied for doesn’t want you, it’s okay. I have faith the right job with the right team will come at the right time.
3. Be Yourself
If anyone knows me they would describe me as goofy, charismatic, and incredibly light hearted. I have recently extended my network out to people I would have never mingled with if I lacked having an open mind. These people are the kind of people driven by the dollar, probably have higher IQs then me, and live life very calculated and planned.
At first I felt self conscious comparing myself to these people and feeling bad about my accomplishments and core values. I recognized that they are attracted to me because I am real. I am honest about my strengths and weakness and ask questions to learn more about them and there life lessons. People love sharing their experiences so to engage in this I go full in about my values, passions, and goals, making it relatable to whomever I am talking to. When you put your guard down and open up, people will respect you. It is such a blessing to be surrounded by wickedly talented people because at the end of the day, I’m learning an incredible amount of things from each of them.
Embrace who you are and have a sense of self-awareness. It’s a start to becoming a fearless designer, broker, teacher, or simply, more human.
4. Be a Yes Man / Woman
I don’t always say “yes” to everything, but everything I have said “yes” to has helped me exercise my courage, become more confident, and provide me with more knowledge to learn from. These experiences will also prevent me from being stale and repetitive in my life as a designer, friend, and human being.
5. Be Present
I know life can be stressful but it’s not often that you get this opportunity to go find yourself when you stay present in your day to day life. Do try to enjoy the ride and appreciate everything you have. Having balance and finding time to cross off those things on your bucket list, revisit a hobby or explore new ones, and meet people, for goodness sakes! It is an incredible feeling and a powerful mindset to possess.
Take the time to share your personal stories and lessons you’ve learn because there is always someone who is looking for a lesson to learn from.
6. Take Risks
Lastly, taking risks only teaches you more about yourself and it reminds you what you want and don’t want. This is where I have truly connected to my soul. I have traveled solo, summited mountain tops, and did things I thought I could never achieve because if you dont give yourself the opportunity you will never know if you can accomplish it. Think about it.
Hope you learned something from this and could share it with someone close to you!
Till next time,
aa
